The Yellow House
By Vincent van Gogh, 1888Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, two of the greatest painters of the late 19th century, met in Paris in the autumn of 1887.
This building, in Aries, France, was known as "The Yellow House", where van Gogh rented four rooms in 1888, embodied the artist's dream of a "Studio of the South," a community of like-minded artists working in harmony to create art for the future.
The window on the first floor near the corner with both shutters open is that of the guest room, van Gogh prepared for Gauguin, where Gauguin lived for nine weeks from late October 1888.
