「源氏物語」 「紅葉賀」「花宴」「葵」
From chapter 7 (紅葉賀) of The Tale of Genji (源氏物語), also mentioned as Genji Monogatari. Chapter 7 “紅葉賀” is translated in English as “Autumn Leaves”, “An Autumn Excursion”, or “An Imperial Celebration of Autumn Foliages".
This volume depicts events of one year from the 18-year-old autumn of the main character Hikaru Genji (光源氏) to the 19-year-old autumn. Hikaru Genji is a superbly handsome man and a genius. He is the second son of a Japanese emperor, but is relegated to civilian life for political reasons.
"The Tale of Genji" (源氏物語) is a novel composed of 54 chapters. This long story is a classic work of Japanese literature written by Murasaki Shikibu (紫 式部) in the early years of the 11th century, the middle of the Heian period (平安時代, 794 to 1185). It first appeared in 1008. Through Hikaru Genji (光源氏), the protagonist, the story portrayed a noble society in the Heian period (平安時代), including love, glory and downfall, political desire and struggle for power. The original manuscript no longer exists.
Murasaki Shikibu (紫 式部, English: Lady Murasaki) was a Japanese noblewoman, novelist, poet, and lady-in-waiting at the Imperial court during the Heian period (平安時代).
The tale concentrates on Genji's (源氏) romantic life and describes the customs of the aristocratic society of the time. It is sometimes called the world's first novel, the first modern novel, the first psychological novel, or the first novel still to be considered a classic.
