Sunflowers

Sunflowers is not one painting, but two series of paintings. The first set of four is known as the “Paris Sunflowers”, created when van Gogh lived with his brother Theo before moving to Arles in 1888. Van Gogh began the “Arles Sunflowers” while renting four rooms in the Yellow House. The Arles Sunflowers are posed in vases; the Paris series presents the clipped flowers lying on the ground.
The “Arles Sunflowers” were created for Paul Gauguin during 1888-1889, to decorate Gauguin's bedroom. Van Gogh painted Sunflowers using just three tints of yellow. The simple motif profoundly appeals to a lot of people.
