Fight a Giant Carp

「巨大な鯉と闘う」
"Fight a Giant Carp" or "Fight with a Carp" is a Japanese Kabuki drama that was performed in 1809 at the Morita-za (新富座) theater which was one of the major Kabuki theaters in Edo city during the Edo period. This kabuki play of 1809 was once again performed on the Las Vegas Strip at the famed Fountains of Bellagio in 2015, after more than two hundred years. High-tech made the debut of this show an amazing performance.
The drama was named "Okuni gozen kesho no sugatami" (Japanese: 巨大な鯉と闘う) at the time, and actor Onoe Eizaburo I played as Tosa no Matahei who was grappling with a giant carp in the play.
This ukiyo-e print was created by Utagawa Toyokuni I (歌川豊国; 1769–1825) who was the dominate ukiyo-e master, known in particular for his kabuki actor prints. Both Kunisada (歌川 国貞) and Kuniyoshi(歌川 國芳), the two woodblock print masters, were Toyokuni's students.
