This print depicts two actors, Ichikawa Kodanji IV and Ichimura Kakitsu IV, who visited Enoshima (江の島) and met the diving women (Women of the Sea, Japanese: 海女, Ama).
Enoshima is a small offshore island in Fujisawa (藤沢市), Kanagawa Prefecture (神奈川県) and is about 4 kilometers in circumference. This island has been famous for diving women who collect abalone and pearls since ancient times and is now a major tourist destination that welcomes 7 million visitors a year.
