Vehicular Traffic in Tokyo

「東京の車両交通」
This print shows the vehicles on the street of Tokyo in the Meiji era. It includes two horse carriages, a rickshaw, a tricycle, steam vehicle, and a steamboat. It is very interesting to observe this work carefully.
The carriage appeared in Japan after entering the Meiji period. It is a rickshaw and a carriage that made the boulevard of Meiji Tokyo bustling, but there was a slight conflict between these two parties.
In the foreign settlements of Yokohama, which opened at the end of the Edo period, the road maintenance was advanced ahead of Tokyo. In 1869, a company was established in Tokyo to start a direct service between Tokyo and Yokohama. It was a two horse-drawn six-seated carriage and it took about four hours between Tokyo and Yokohama.
